New Geographies

Commencing in 2017, New Geographies was a 3-year project with 10 artists’ commissions across East Anglia. People nominated over 250 locations based on personal stories and reflections, some of which have inspired the new artworks. The aim was to create a new map of the East of England, by enabling people to share their stories and re-imagine our idea of ‘place’.

UH Arts has worked with two of the commissioned artists Stuart Whipps and Krijn de Koning. Find out more about their projects below, as well as the outreach artists' projects by Sarah Evans and Jane Glynn.

We are delighted that Krijn de Koning’s installation Green/blue, work for the Fredrick Gibberd Garden, Harlow 2020, will remain at The Gibberd Garden for 2021. Please click below for more information.

New Geographies was led by ECVAN and funded by Arts Council England. The New Geographies partner institutions are Art Exchange, University of Essex Colchester; East GalleryNUA, Norwich University of the Arts; Firstsite, Colchester; Focal Point Gallery, Southend; Kettle’s Yard, University of Cambridge; Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery; original projects; Great Yarmouth; UH Arts, University of Hertfordshire; and Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridgeshire.
